Jesus! Camp

I just saw the Oscar nominated Jesus Camp, a documentary that follows several pentecostal children who attend the Evangelical version of a terrorist training camp in North Dakota. As you can imagine, it's a horrifying film--but definitely worth seeing. My favorite part is when the filmmakers take the viewer to Colorado Springs, the "mecca" of Evangelical Christians, and into the mega-church run by the infamous Ted Haggard. When the film came out, Haggard was only known for being the president of the National Association for Evangelicals (which has about 30 millions members) and a right-wing politico (the film claims Haggard spoke to Bush EVERY WEEK), but who now is perhaps known better as the hypocrite who frequently denounced homosexuality and gay marriage (we even see him take a shot at gays in Jesus Camp) while he was carrying on a three-year "relationship" (i.e. butt-sex and meth) with a male hooker. Luckily for us and the movement in general, Haggard has recently been released from rehab, and is now "completely heterosexual." Who knows? Perhaps they gave Haggard what OHSU gave the rams...

I've been wanting to see "Jesus Camp" since I saw the preview in the fall. Another worthwhile doc. to see is "Deliver Us From Evil" It is about the sex abuse scandal within the Catholic Church in LA.
