Old Friend

Sometime circa 1996, Betty gave (or sold?) me this book. It was well written and we both liked it. Tonight, I unexpectedly met the author--it seems he continued as a journalist, but instead of staying a music nerd, he is now something of an expert on China and global warming. While he didn't have anything encouraging to say about our planet, I avoided my usual depression by fondly remembering his warm words about John and Paul.

sweet to wake up to this post. I remember the book.
I also remember being around 12 and listening intently to teh LP's (yes, kiddies LP'S) my cool handsome dad would bring home from New York. I listened intently for Paul's voice and thought that maybe he was singing just for me.....

Nancy D. : How awesome! Isn't he kind of a cute nerd?

I remember how this book blew our little teenage minds. I read it again a couple of years ago and it really holds up admirably, you can still feel the excitement of digging into all this music. And for the record (no pun intended), I believe I gave this to you for your fifteenth birthday.

Also, Hertsgaard got in trouble with lots of people for being able to hear all the Beatle studio tapes before they had approved the release. Moral of the story: always buddy up to the security guards...
