This is an incredibly powerful statement by Colin Powell, especially the second half, where he eloquently addresses the question that has been raised on this blog about allegations of Obama being a Muslim: "What if he were?"

what if mccain had chosen powell as VP? what if he had checked and double checked w/ military intel about all the bulshit he said at UN? what if he just deals w/ the fact that he was responsible for the war?
nothing in my view could ever erase the lack of basic good judgement in powell.
he likes obama?
I couldn't care a less.
[I'm saying this about powell, not about your posting :)]
[that would be "bullshit"...]
I know what you mean...I have this inclination to think of Powell as the quiet voice of reason during the build-up to the war, but that may be wishful thinking. But actually I posted this not so much because of who Powell is but because I thought he articulated his case very strongly, and I thought what he said about Muslims in America was very moving.
Maureen Dowd describes Powell's point of view very nicely here.
